SPA places a high regards on Youth and Women in Soursop Farming

Incorporating youth and women into soursop farming practices is essential for ensuring the sustainability and growth of the industry. Observations show that women in farming businesses often exhibit a more reliable and detail-oriented approach compared to their male counterparts. Women are particularly adept at handling tasks that require precision and meticulous care, which are crucial for producing high-quality soursop.

On the other hand, males excel in physically demanding activities such as land clearing, pruning, and harvesting, showcasing the complementary roles both genders can play in farming operations.

Focusing on youth engagement is equally critical. By equipping young individuals with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary for high-quality soursop production, the industry can ensure a sustainable future. Youth bring innovation, adaptability, and a long-term perspective, which are invaluable in addressing modern agricul

A key challenge faced in the soursop farming sector is the reliance on traditional farming methods. Older farmers often demonstrate functional fixedness toward these older practices and beliefs, making it difficult to adopt newer scientific approaches. While traditional methods have sustained the industry for decades, they limit opportunities to enhance yield, quality, and resilience to modern agricultural challenges.

Empowering youth to embrace and implement advanced, science-based practices can bridge this gap, ensuring that the industry evolves to meet global standards while maintaining its cultural roots. This combination of innovation from youth and the inclusion of women in leadership and operational roles will strengthen the foundation of soursop farming, drive economic growth, enhance gender inclusivity, and secure the long-term sustainability of the industry.
